If your home has a partial basement, crawlspace or a very low ceiling, you may want to consider excavating to lower your basement floor. This can provide you with an expanded square footage of useable space in your home. Lowering your basement and adding square footage to your home can also increase your homes value.
There are two ways to lower your basement:
Underpinning process:
The underpinning system is used for one main reason, to create extra living space. It will allow you to increase the overall height of your basement and the square footage. This method is most chosen because it gives you the most options for the space.
Benching system:
The benching system is used to create extra living space. The benching system allow you to create the same overall height gain but it minimizes your square footage as compared to the underpinning process. It is a system that is less costly then underpinning and takes less time.
You can choose to have a fully finished basement, or to use your basement as a rental property to gain a source of income.
